I’ve gotten a few of these recently. Despite their randomness, I’ve been chugging on, doing my damnedest to get things done.
Things haven’t quite gone the way I expected them to, though. Then again, that’s one of life’s little quirks. It’ll always throw a curveball just when you think everything is coming back together again.
Taking the good with the bad, I’ve also been incorporating more writing into my regime. Before life decided to tilt the other way, I always had time to write. Now, not so much.
A friend of mine recently told me to make use of writing sprints. She told me it would help in getting in a word count or two in on occasion. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. Now, though, I confess her advice was spot on.
On a good day—when life isn’t throwing a curveball in my direction—I’m able to get in 500-1000 words. Sometimes more. On bad days, I don’t even go past 200. On the bright side of those bad days, however, at least I’ve written a little.
Juggling life and writing isn’t easy. Nothing ever is, but I’m happy when I can squeeze in a writing session. Sometimes, it’s just for five to ten minutes. Others, I’ll go for thirty minutes to an hour. The distractions during those thirty plus minutes make it so that I don’t get that many words down, but at least words are written, you know? I like to think of it as a good thing.
Life will end up throwing me a few more curveballs soon due to a few things I’ve got going on at the moment, but I’m looking forward to it. Little by little, this new story I’m working on is coming together. Soon enough, I’ll have it ready to share with the outside world. I hope, anyway.
